Naomi Zipkin has devoted more than twenty-five years as a preschool director, and instructor teaching Child Development at Los Medanos College in California. In addition to preparing future teachers, she worked with young parents, helping them understand their common issues. The concept of "Look At Me! Birth to Three" as a child growth guide arose from many of the questions raised by parents and students who could not find the desired information in a concise document. She views parenthood as a difficult and rewarding task, especially with the few societal supports which exist. Valuing and respecting children are high on her priority scale. Since retirement, she has enjoyed talking with parent groups and training child care workers through inservice workshops. Topics she particularly enjoys discussing are: positive discipline, appropriate expectations of young children, sibling rivalry, prescriptions for success in school, how children learn, building self esteem, and more. |
